Our Philosophy

Conventional teacher-centric models of education view students as passive recipients of knowledge, demanded blind obedience, promoted rote learning, exerted inordinate pressure on children to perform, and disregarded diversity in students’ needs. These imperatives unduly imposed on children have restricted their career prospects, stifled their overall development and compromised their well-being for decades. At HVBGA, we are acutely aware of the pressing need for a significant revision of our educational philosophy.

Led by Dr Chandrakata Pathak, principal and CEO at HVBGA, our team has been working relentlessly to reimagine the ethos of teaching and learning at our school to make education egalitarian and a means to actualize students’ innate creative potentials. We do so by making learning inclusive and by effecting, measuring and tracking growth and development of students along five key dimensions: Intelligence Quotient (IQ), Emotional Quotient (EQ), Digital Quotient (DQ), Social Quotient (SQ) and Creative-Consciousness Quotient (CQ).

While IQ and EQ are popularly known as measures of a person’s abilities to reason and to understand, use and manage their emotions, DQ, SQ and CQ are new additions in keeping with the nature of challenges we face today. DQ refers to the awareness of and competence in tools and skills of the digital world which permeate all aspects of modern life; SQ refers to the state of mind and skills required to collaborate in groups, form reliable long-term social relationships in a world where social media has made life increasingly disconnected and isolated; and CQ refers to the ability of being mindful, reflective and deliberate—much needed qualities in today’s fast-paced, data-driven world.

These abilities are essential to enable an individual to survive, thrive and lead a meaningful life in today’s increasingly complex and uncertain world rife with novel challenges. This naturally leads to a happy individual. Thus, these five representations of a person’s abilities form the components of what we refer to as the Happiness Quotient (HQ)—a measure of a person’s overall physical and mental well-being. HQ is the thrust of all of our teaching-learning activities at HVBGA.
